Villa Details

A stunning five-bedroom beach villa, located in Thalpe, one of the beautiful small bays just to the south of Galle. The journey from Colombo will take approximately 2 hours by road or one could  take the Air Taxi from Katunayake International Airport and fly to Koggala, which is a 15-minute drive away from the villa. The historic town of Galle is only 5km away. Unawatuna Beach, Mirissa Bay and Koggala Lake are also nearby.

The villa is carefully designed to allow in natural light and the ocean breeze through its many open verandahs, halls and bedrooms. Time is unscheduled here. Lie in a hammock and let the rhythm of the waves put you to sleep; or recline in a Planter’s chair with a good book and a cup of Ceylon's finest tea. The villa offers excellent value-for-money and is suitable for families and small groups.

Accommodation

There are five spacious bedrooms that open out to the central courtyard. The master bedroom has a private terrace with comfortable sitting area where you can spend hours doing as you wish. All the bedrooms have their own private ensuite. Two of the bedrooms have an outdoor bathroom including a plunge bath and the second bedroom also has an outdoor shower. The themed bedrooms are elegantly furnished with comfortable four-poster beds that are dressed up with a splash of colour. All of the beds are fitted with mosquito nets and overhead fans cool the rooms. Air conditioning units and LCD flatscreen televisions have been installed in all the bedrooms.

Facilities

Although designed by a leading Australian architect, local architectural features have been skillfully and sensitively incorporated into this villa, which blends well into the environment. The terracotta floors and weathered clay roof tiles help ease the heat during midday. A central courtyard featuring a large swimming pool, surrounding verandahs, open spaces that serve as living and dining areas, all overlook a garden, strewn with coconut trees, that slopes down to the beach. There is also an air conditioned inside living area with comfortable furniture, a library, an LCD Flat screen television with 60 channels a DVD and CD player. This room is also equipped with board games and musical instruments such as a guitar, keyboard and didgeridoo. WiFi is provided, free of charge, throughout the property.

Villa 1316 is well staffed to ensure your stay is comfortable, but at the same time ensure your privacy. A nanny can be organized on request for families travelling with children.

Meals

Provide our manager with a float and he will purchase your ingredients and required food items or you may wish to accompany him to the local market to select your own ingredients. Both Western dishes and Sri Lankan rice and curry are served. Discuss your menus with the chef and he will ensure that fresh vegetables and seafood from the daily catch is prepared to your liking.

Surfing

Villa 1316 is ideally located midway between Hikkaduwa and Mirissa as it is these two breaks that produce the best quality waves in the region. Additionally there are a variety of breaks to be found on the coastal road between the Hikkaduwa and Mirissa including Unawatuna, Midigama and Weligama. The central location of Thalpe allows surfers using the villa as a base to minimise travel time to surf breaks. The rock reef can also be surfed when the wind and swell direction are favourable.

Excursions

Safe swimming is possible in Unawatuna’s beautiful beaches. Several water sports are on offer including deep-sea fishing, catamaran and boat rides, surfing, snorkelling and whale-watching.

High on the headland of Unawatuna Bay is Rhumassala Temple. With beautiful views stretching out over the Indian Ocean a walk around the headland near the temple is very special. Famed for the natural medicinal herbs nearby you will walk through hidden villages and verdant jungle valleys eventually finding yourself on `Jungle Beach’ - a little known and secluded beach.

Galle’s historic 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is just 15 minutes away. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the growing collection of art galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants.
